• A middle school counselor, based on the ASCA (American School Counselor Association) standards, plays a crucial role in promoting the academic, social-emotional, and career development of students.

     

    Here’s an overview of our role, aligned with ASCA standards:

     

    1. Academic Development

    • Help students set academic goals, improve study skills, and monitor progress.

     

    2. Social/Emotional Development

    • Provide individual and group counseling (6-8 weeks maximum) for issues like anxiety, bullying, peer relationships, and self-esteem.
      • Teach social skills, decision-making, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation.
      • For longer-term counseling, referrals can be made to Crossroads, an organization 黑料社 Union School District partners with. 

     

    3. Career Development

    • Introduce career awareness through activities and resources, helping students understand their strengths and interests.
    • Guide students in setting career goals and understanding future opportunities.

     

    4. Collaboration with Families and Teachers

    • Work with teachers, staff, and parents to support students’ overall well-being and academic progress.

     

    In middle school, counselors focus on helping students navigate the unique challenges of adolescence while preparing them for academic success and personal growth. They follow the ASCA standards to ensure a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate approach.
